Dr. Akhalwaya is a sub-specialist paediatric rheumatologist who looks after children and young people with arthritis, lupus and many other rheumatic conditions. She trained in paediatrics at the Red Cross Children's Hospital at the University of Cape Town, winning the Robert McDonald award for highest achiever. She went onto complete a post graduate diploma in paediatric nephrology then paediatric rheumatology subspecialist training at the Red Cross Hospital in Cape Town. She aims to provide care to children living with rheumatic diseases in Stellenbosch and Cape Town.
